PHYSIOTHERAPY Services

  • Book an Initial Physiotherapy Consultation with our Senior Physiotherapist in Darlington or Guildford for a thorough assessment and development of an individualised management plan to get you on track to achieving your health, rehabilitation and fitness goals.

Our physiotherapist is experienced in the management of a range of difficulties. These are including (but not limited to):

    • Acute and chronic lower back pain (including pregnancy related LBP)

    • Hip pain

    • Knee pain

    • Neck pain and headaches

    • Post-surgery rehabilitation

    • Shoulder pain and injuries

    • Strains and sprains

    • Women’s health physio (including use of Real Time Ultrasound)

    • Strength training during perio/menopause

    • TMJ (jaw) pain/dysfunction

  • 1 in 3 Australian women suffer from incontinence and this figure rises once women have had their first baby. But not all women with stress incontinence have had children. They might have a family history of stretchy connective tissue, be overweight, have a chronic cough, constipation or have had surgery. Stress incontinence is also actually quite common with women playing sport or exercising, due to the forces of the abdominals on the pelvic floor.

While women are the main sufferers, incontinence can also be a problem for men, especially after prostate surgery. Studies show 1 in 10 men will also suffer from incontinence in their life.

Real Time Ultrasound Imaging (RTUI) is effective in treating stress incontinence in about 80 per cent of cases, according to the first national study undertaken in clinical practice by researchers at the University of South Australia. This compares to surgery with success rates around 50 – 60%.

RTUI is used to treat pelvic floor dysfunction noninvasively at Manna Wellness, allowing us to assess your pelvic floor and surrounding muscle function. RTUI can be used to rehabilitate the pelvic floor with the following symptoms:

    • Overactive pelvic floor

    • Underactive pelvic floor

    • Incontinence including:

Stress incontinence (when jumping, sneezing, coughing)

Urgency (strong desire to urinate with little control to wait until you reach the toilet)

      Mild prolapses

    • Voiding (urination) difficulties: Double void; Hesitancy; Slow stream; incomplete emptying.

Once the causes of your problems are identified via RTUI, your physiotherapist will then give you strategies and implement an exercise program for both your pelvic floor and surrounding musculature to ensure your symptoms are managed correctly.

RTUI can also be used to assess and retrain the deep stabilising muscles that support the lower back. Research shows that our core muscles lose their strength and supportive nature around the lumbar spine following an episode of lower back pain. If these muscles are neglected following injury, it can cause ongoing pain, dysfunctional movement patterns, prolonged recovery and increased risk of reinjury. Due to the depth and small movement of these core muscles, RTUI can be an effective and useful tool for assessing and treating these issues.

For an initial RTUI assessment with our Principal Physiotherapist, please contact our clinic on (08)62920148 or email at admin@mannawellness.com.au.
